During the Bali – Lombok virtual challenge your team of 1-4 people will work together to virtually run 792km (495mi) around the islands of Bali and the neighbouring island of Lombok.

Use Virtual Baton App to manage your team and add distance.

Each time anyone on your team runs, walks, or hikes your team advances along an interactive map towards the finish.

Your team members can be located anywhere in the world!

WHAT YOU GET

Unlock badges, earn your finisher patch!

FINISHER PATCH

Finish the course to get a special code that you can use to receive a free custom finisher’s patch (just pay shipping & handling).

The Bali – Lombok finishers patches are 3″ embroidered fabric patches with an iron on backing.

Your team earns special digital badges as you make your way around the islands. There are a total of nine digital badges to collect.

ADDING DISTANCE

How to add distance during the challenge

Your team will use Virtual Baton app to complete the Bali to Lombok team challenge

Use the app to manage, and interact with your team, and watch your team move along the course.

There are two ways to add distance during the challenge:

Add distance manually using the Virtual Baton App manual uploading tool
Connect Virtual Baton App with a supported fitness tracking app

Virtual Baton App is currently compatible with MapMyRun and Garmin Connect.

HOW TO USE VIRTUAL BATON APP

VIRTUALLY TRAVEL AROUND BALI & LOMBOK

Watch your team move along an interactive map. View your team’s position on the course, and explore your virtual surroundings with Google Street View.

Every time you add distance you team moves along the map. It’s like you’re really there!

COMPETITIVE OR CASUAL

The Bali Lombok virtual challenge is built for everyone!

Start the challenge anytime. Your team time doesn’t begin until you start your team clock.

Use the leaderboard to compare your time to other teams, or set your own goal and complete the challenge at your own pace. There are no cut-off times!

THE COURSE

Cover up to 792km / 495mi over two islands

The Bali – Lombok virtual challenge covers a total of 792km (495mi).

Teams begin at the Denpasar airport, then complete a 470km (293mi) loop of Bali that finishes back at the airport.

After completing Bali we virtually fly your team over to Lombok. Your team begins a 322km (201mi) loop of the island at the main ferry terminal, and finishes at a hidden surf beach on the west side of the island.

Your team members can be located anywhere in the world!

Run, walk, hike, or hit the treadmill then use Virtual Baton App to add your distance to your team total.

Follow your team’s progress on the leaderboard and on an interactive map to watch your team move around the island.

Complete the goal distance before the challenge ends to unlock special badges!

FAQ’s

TEAM SETUP

How do I join a team?

To create a new team or join an existing team register for the Bali – Lombok virtual challenge. After you register you will receive an email with your personal activation code (usually within 48 hours of registration).

Download Virtual Baton App, then use your personal activation code to access your team.

Each team member will need to register for the challenge in order to receive an activation code.

Does my team have to be exactly 4 people?

No! Your team can be made up of anywhere from 1 – 4 people.

Do my team members have to be in the same area?

No. Your team can be made up of people located anywhere in the world!

Do we have to finish the challenge by a certain date?

No. You can take as long as you want to finish the challenge.

USING VIRTUAL BATON APP

What types of exercise count?

Runs, walks, and hikes will add distance during the Bali – Lombok Challenge.

Can I add my steps?

Yes. Steps can be manually added to Virtual Baton App. Steps are converted at 1,000 steps = 760m

Do I have to carry my phone with me while I run/walk?

No. The only time you need your phone is when you are using the Virtual Baton app to add distance to your team, chat with team members, or see where your team is at on the map!

If I run/walk with a team member will both our distances count?

Yes! Any team member at any time add distance to your team total.

Do I have to use a fitness app to track my distance?

No. You can always manually upload distance (including steps) using the manual upload option in Virtual Baton App.

If I use a fitness app and set my activities private will they still count?

Yes. When you first connect a fitness app account to Virtual Baton App it will ask for permission to view your private activities. If you select this option then any activities that you make private will still count towards your team total.

Do treadmills count?

Yes! You can run/walk on a treadmill and count those miles towards your team total.

Is there a minimum distance that I need to cover?

There are no distance minimums set for any team member, or any activities. You can throw down 100 meters and call it a day if you would like!

What‘s stopping someone from cheating and adding a bunch of distance that they didn’t actually cover?

While we do monitor accounts for an suspicious activity (e.g. someone running at world record pace) we have found that all of our participants are honest about their uploads.

There are no prizes for first place so if someone adds a bunch of distance that they didn’t run or walk they are only cheating themselves out of the full challenge experience.
