How to add distance during the challenge

Your team will use Virtual Baton app to complete the this team challenge

Use the app to manage, and interact with your team, and watch your team move along the course.

There are two ways to add distance during the challenge:

Add distance (or steps) manually using the Virtual Baton App manual uploading tool
Connect Virtual Baton App with a supported fitness tracking app

Virtual Baton App is currently compatible with MapMyRun and Garmin Connect.

THE COURSE

Cover 724 km (453 mi) on your team’s journey from Skagway Alaska to the Klondike gold fields in the Yukon!

The Gold Rush Trail virtual challenge covers a total of 724 km (453 mi).

Teams begin in Skagway Alaska then complete a route that finishes at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon and Casino in the centre of Dawson City.

Course Highlights

Receive special emails and notifications when your team reaches famous landmarks during the challenge!

Begin in Skagway Alaska, and follow the Klondike Gold Rush route through the famous Chilkoot Pass.

Cross the mighty Yukon River as you follow a path North towards the gold fields.

Finish at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall in Dawson City. The perfect spot to strike it rich!

HOW IT WORKS

Assemble your team; run, walk, or hike, and move along the map

Your team members can be located anywhere in the world!

Run, walk, or hike as far as you want, then use Virtual Baton App to add your distance to your team total.

Track your team time on the leaderboard (if you’re into that sort of thing) and watch your team move along an interactive map of the course.

FAQ’s

TEAM SETUP

How do I join a team?

To create a new team or join an existing team register for the Yukon Gold Rush Trail virtual challenge. After you register you will receive an email with your personal activation code (usually within 48 hours of registration).

Download Virtual Baton App, then use your personal activation code to access your team.

Each team member will need to register for the challenge in order to receive an activation code.

Does my team have to be exactly 4 people?

No! Your team can be made up of anywhere from 1 – 4 people.

Do my team members have to be in the same area?

No. Your team can be made up of people located anywhere in the world!

Do we have to finish the challenge by a certain date?

No. You can take as long as you want to finish the challenge.

USING VIRTUAL BATON APP

What types of exercise count?

Runs, walks, hikes, and steps will add distance during this challenge.

Can I add my steps?

Yes. Steps can be manually added to Virtual Baton App. Steps are converted at 1,000 steps = 760m

Do I have to carry my phone with me while I run?

No. The only time you need your phone is when you are using the Virtual Baton app to add distance to your team, chat with team members, or see where your team is at on the map!

If I run/walk with a team member will both our distances count?

Yes! Any team member at any time add distance to your team total.

Do I have to use a fitness app to track my distance?

No. You can always manually upload distance (including steps) using the manual upload option in Virtual Baton App.

If I use a fitness app and set my activities to private will they still count?

Yes. When you first connect a fitness app account to Virtual Baton App it will ask for permission to view your private activities. If you select this option then any activities that you make private will still count towards your team total.

Do treadmills count?

Yes! You can run/walk on a treadmill and count those miles towards your team total.

Is there a minimum distance that I need to cover?

There are no distance minimums set for any team member, or any activities. You can throw down 100 meters and call it a day if you’d like!

What‘s stopping someone from adding a bunch of distance they didn’t run?

While we do monitor accounts for an suspicious activity (e.g. someone running at world record pace) we have found that all of our participants are honest about their uploads.

There are no prizes for first place so if someone adds a bunch of distance that they didn’t run or walk they are only cheating themselves out of the full challenge experience.
